Human Rights - Women Rights DayWithin the 16-day media campaign for prevention of violence to women, the fourth closing tribune took place on 10 December called "10 December - Human rights-women rights day", organized by the Roma women and young association "Luludi" from Skopje.

Women Organization Sveti Nikole
Desire for mutual understandingSveti Nikole is a small community but it can be called a "small Balkans" because besides Macedonian, there live Vlach, Roma, Turkish, Serbian and other nationalities. This is where the Sveti Nikole Women Organization's idea to prepare a project for coexistence between Macedonians, Vlachs and Serbs came from. The organizations involved in the project are: Sveti Nikole Roma Organizations and the Civic Initiative for Vlach Women, in cooperation with the Open Society Institute Macedonia Foundation, the Belgian Foundation King Boduen and the American Foundation "Charles Stewart Mott". The goal of the project is mutual introducing with the cultural values of these people, as well as detailed information on the history, tradition, customs and their folklore.

16 Days against family violence
The fight against violence must lastThe world action "16 days against family violence" was traditionally marked in Macedonia from 24 November to 11 December. The MWOU organized several debates, tribunes, round tables and workshops. The first debate, "Violence as a fact or fiction", took place on 27 November in Skopje, with representatives from NGO, the Faculty of Philosophy from Skopje, especially from the department of social work and policy and other guests. The Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Mr. Jovan Manasievski promoted the brochure "16 Days against family violence".

Information for the unemployed womenThe Center for education and better approach to information and communication sources for unemployed women started working recently on the Initiative of Kriva Palanka Women Organization. Its goal is to improve their knowledge and possibilities for employment.

Macedonian Institute for Media
Macedonian Institute for MediaOn 12 December this year, at the Museum of Contemporary Art - Skopje, the annual exhibition of journalist photo "World Press Photo 2002" was opened. The exhibition was organized by the Macedonian Institute for Media and "World Press Photo" with support from the Museum of Contemporary Art - Skopje and the Dutch Embassy in Macedonia. The exhibition consists of 160 photographs from the competition for the best journalist photograph for the year 2002, that World Press organizes traditionally every year.

Regional Anti-AIDS Campaign
Include them allOn the occasion of 1 December, World Day for facing AIDS, the Health Education and Research Association H.E.R.A., together with OJAZAS - SR Yugoslovia and YAA - "Young Against Aids"- Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized the Regional Anti-AIDS Campaign, 2002 - "Include them all". The campaign's name points out to the already established negative public attitude towards people infected with the HIV virus and to those social groups for which there are prejudices that thy are "determined to carry the HIV virus (intra-vein dug addicts, homosexuals, prostitutes etc.) and as a consequence, they withdraw from the public life or can be rejected from their families, friends, health services, thus having difficulties in finding employment.

With condoms against the AIDSUnder the motto "Risk is a tactics without condom practice", "the Macedonian Interethnic Association - MIA, in cooperation with other organizations, companies and individuals, included in the world action for celebrating the International Day for Prevention of AIDS that is going on under the motto "Live and let live"

Regional Seminar
Revitalizing the craftsFrom 12 to 15 December at the Museum of Macedonia in Skopje, the Regional Seminar "Revitalizing the crafts and skills", took place as part of the Macedonia-French Programme for Skopje, Bitola and Ohrid cultural heritage valorization. The Programme is implemented by the Ministry of Culture and the French Embassy in the Republic of Macedonia.

CHILDREN
"Nasmevki" for the social inclusion of childrenSince September this year, the Center for social inclusion of children and young people from economically undeveloped regions "Nasmevki" has started its operation. The Center is financed by the Educational and cultural initiatives foundation "Step by Step", the King Boduen Foundation and the Open Society Institute Macedonia Foundation and it was widely supported by the local self-government, the public institutions and the business-sector. This Center covers socialization and education of 80 children most of which come from socially endangered families and children without parents.

Polio Plus
The Count Monte Christ among usThe association Polio Plus - post polio group for support" in cooperation with "Handicap International" marked the 3 December - the Handicapped Day in a most original way - placing a metal cage at the entrance of the Trade Center in Skopje. The allusion on the Count Monte Christ imprisonment, which was part of the street theater organized by "Polio Plus", was intended to remind the citizens, as well as the authorities that handicapped people are doomed to live in a cage created by the society's lack of care. The architectonic barriers are only one of the many rails on that cage.

In Veles
Environmental democracyThe Parents Association for Healthy Offspring Care from Veles, with support from the British Embassy in Macedonia, is carrying out the project "Environmental Democracy for Veles". The goal of this project is to initiate changes and amendments of laws that regulate the health protection of all citizens, with special emphasis on the environment and the environmental protection of children especially. |  |
