Shell protects the biodiversity on the planet
"No go" list of protected areas
After the discussions that took place at the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), the Shell Group proclaimed as a first company in the world to accept the UNESCO list of world-protected areas, where it should produce or exploit no gas or oil. The so-called "no go" list of protected areas is becoming part of the Shell's business in the best possible way - said one of the presidents of this international company, Sir Phillip Watts.
IUCN works hard to implement its "Initiative for the energy and the bio-diversity" and include in it as many as possible oil groups. Within this initiative, the IUCN prepared a guide for exploitation and production of gas and oil in the key eco-systems on our planet, such as the Mangrove woods, Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions and the tropical regions. Such a guide will be prepared for the mining and in the arid and semi-arid areas.
