3 October

World Children Day

 This day is dedicated to the most important beings in the world - the children. The international children day, established by UNICEF, tends to promote the children rights and the creation of better conditions for growing, development and education of the youngest citizens.

On this day we have to remind ourselves, that unfortunately, not everywhere children enjoy all rights foreseen by the Children Rights Convention. This also refers to our country where many children live in poverty, without any chances for decent education, health protection and carefree childhood, without being exploited, tortured and abused.

 

4 October

Animal protection day

 Animals, too, do not have equal chance to live in accordance with their free nature. Many animals, domestic and wild, are threatened by humans and their selfish needs. In the first place, we have to mention the problems with dogs and the stray-cats, that is, animals that are exploited for making profit, as well as the problem of endangered species, which suffer the environmental pollution and the degradation of their natural habitats.

 

4-26 October

A Leadership Course

 In the month of October, the Nansen Dialogue Centre from Skopje is organizing a leadership development course that will continue in November and December this year. It will cover the subjects: "Communication skills and team building", "Organizational management, human recourses and managing with volunteers", Intercultural learning and managing diversities" and other.

 

10-11 October

Training for managers in the election process

 The Nansen Dialogue Centre is organizing a seminar in Skopje. Its target group are activists from the political parties' youth organizations in the Republic of Macedonia. A training course on managing the election process will be implemented with trainers from SDSM, VMRO-DPMNE, DPA and SP youth organizations.

 

12 October

Let's reduce the natural catastrophes

 This day was established by the United Nations and it is celebrated as International day for fight against natural catastrophes and for reducing the consequences of their destructive power. The earthquakes, the hurricanes, the floods, the big waves, land erosion and other natural catastrophes kill take thousands of lives every year. Many of them come as a consequence of people's activities that cause changes in the earth ecological system.

 

15 October

Day for going on foot

 The international day for going on foot should remind the modern people that they should go on foot if they don't want to forget how to walk. In many developed countries in the world, cars, buses - even bikes are being boycotted - and people just walk. Campaigns, informative and educational actions are organized - and, of course, walks in nature.

 

17 October

Let's fight the poverty

 The World day for fight against poverty is an occasion to appeal for greater social justice, providing elementary living conditions for all people in the world so that they can realize their right to work and earn from their own labour. Unfortunately, the poverty and its roots and consequences are present almost everywhere on Earth. The task of the governments, the business-sector, the institutions, civic associations and all other subjects, is to give their contribution against the global poverty.

 

24 October

UN Day

 On this date in 1945 in San Francisco, USA, the world organization of nations was founded. Its goal was to keep the peace and security, promote the cooperation based on respecting the postulates of equality and self-determination of peoples in the world, find peaceful solutions for problems that might occur between nations and forbid the use of weapons in international conflicts. Many UN members should remind themselves of that principles that they themselves signed once, but somehow forgot to put them into practice.

 

....and Information development day

 The development of information is one of the basic conditions for equal development and realization of human rights throughout the world. The day dedicated to the development of information, in the present context means fight for access to information to everyone, right to be informed, as well as spreading and developing the modern information technology. In many cases, information means not only power, but also means for survival and quality and decent living.

 

31 October

Black Sea Day

 The day dedicated to the Black Sea is celebrated by the countries that gravitate to the Black Sea basin, among which is Macedonia. This day is dedicated to actions for protecting the Black Sea and its basin from pollution, but also to the promotion and protection of the region's cultural values. It is also an opportunity for a regional cooperation, bringing the countries from this ecologically determined region closer to one another.
