Auction of gifts for the SOS phone

The Women Association “Bisera” from Ohrid have provided in a very creative way some of the things necessary for the functioning of the SOS telephone line for women and children-victims of violence. This association, under the patronage of REC and the ISC, organized an auction at the Ohrid Hotel “Park” in July. Gifts, donated by other NGOs from Macedonia, citizens and businessman, were being sold at the auction. All those who bought tickets for a symbolic price had the right to participate, and the money from the tickets went to the SOS telephone line.
In “Bisera”, they say that the money raised at the auction have been above their expectations and that this way of raising money for their activities and projects could be used in future, too. This presents a way in which non-governmental organizations could generate money for special purposes, thus releasing themselves, at least partly, from the DONORS, dependence and moving towards “self-sustainability”.
