Project "School for Democracy"

Ten "democratic" notebooks

In the second half of June, the ten democratic notebooks will be published as part of the project "School for Democracy", initiated and implemented by the Institute for Democracy, solidarity and civil society (IDSCO) and the Open Society Institute Macedonia Foundation (OSIMF).

The project is financed by the British Embassy and OSIMF. The notebooks are prepared by a team of experts, students, NGO activists and individuals, and their goal is to contribute to the development of democratic processes in the Republic of Macedonia. The notebooks will be published in seven languages: Macedonian, Albanian, Turkish, Roma, Vlach, Serbian and Bosnian. Their approach is original indeed- to present democracy terminology and ideology through the common people's perception - the ice-cream seller Dime, the grocer and merchant Ermira, people who we meet in our neighborhood, on the market, or walking in the park on Sundays...And, as the introduction in the notebooks states, their goal is to show the citizens that democracy can be learnt and developed as well, since it is not "a completed letter", since "the human capability for justice makes the democracy possible, while the human tendency for injustice makes it necessary" and for many other reasons.

Their original design, which is a merit of the designer team in "Koma - lab" also contributes to their readability and attractiveness.
