Mobilization of resources
MCIC has mobilized resources from a private company
SOCOTAB FRANA SA will, through MCIC, donate 56.620 euros for reconstruction of sanitation in the primary schools in the villages of Dobrusevo (Mogila) and Dolno Kolicani (Studenicani)
In Macedonia there is a lack of the concept of social responsibility within companies. The few companies that, in their strategic documents, have projected activities for social responsibility, cannot redeem that impression. This is confirmed by the research (“Trust, responsibility for social issues and charity in Macedonia”), that MCIC carried out last year. The citizens have low expectations of the social responsibility of the companies. Only 1.4% of them think that the business sector is the most responsible for solving social needs.
Unlike Macedonia, the citizens of more developed countries have higher expectations. They have been enjoying the benefits of the social responsibility of their companies for many years.
One such company, Socotab Frana SA from Switzerland, will help the reconstruction of sanitation in two primary schools in Macedonia. It is about the primary school Braka Miladinovci from the village of Dobrusevo, Mogila and the primary school Jordan Hadzi-Konstantinov Dzinot from the village of Dolno Kolicani, Studenicani.
The condition of the sanitation in these two schools is poor. They are old and ruined and located outside the school buildings. Their current maintenance is a problem, as well as the provision of appropriate hygienic and sanitary conditions for the children and the personnel. The number of cabins and other necessary plumbing is insufficient and mostly not functional. In both cases the standards regulated for such kinds of buildings are not fulfilled. In both schools there are 384 pupils and 39 employed people.
This intervention will improve the hygienic and sanitary conditions for the pupils and the personnel in both primary schools. Partners in the realization are the municipalities, too, the schools’ management; parents’ councils, school boards, teachers’ councils and local communities. The branch of Sokomak from Bitola will actively be involved in the realization of the project.
The reconstruction will have ended by 30th May this year.
“For MCIC this is a first bigger private donation, a foreign one”, says Dimce Mitreski, manager of the development department in MCIC. “We hope that by developing the social responsibility in the Macedonian business sector, there will be more such examples by domestic companies”.
MCIC has built excellent relations and experiences with the local self-government (municipalities) units in the Republic of Macedonia, good relations with the municipalities’ national organizations (ZELS (Union of Local Self-government Units and ADKOM) and some relevant state institutions. Such results are the reason that Socotab Frana has chosen MCIC for a partner in the implementation of this activity.
In the so far work MCIC has realized more than 250 projects for renewal of water-supply/sanitation in the rural and suburban marginalized communities. Most focus of support has been given in the rural municipalities from Central and part of Eastern Macedonia. In the course of its 13 years of functioning, MCIC has worked in 233 communities in Macedonia, and 168.826 citizens have been supplied with healthy drinking water or appropriate eduction of waste waters.
