Women

Street exhibition in Stip Fair conditions for women who dress Europe

On 1 October, exactly at noon, at the “Sloboda” Square in Stip, an exhibition called “Fair conditions for women who dress Europe” was open. The 8 international standards referring to the rights of women who work in the ready-to-wear industry were presented at the exhibition.

This is a regional project that includes participants from a number of organizations from Macedonia, such as: PPC Stip, “Sonce” from Tetovo, “Delta” from Delcevo; from Serbia and Montenegro - “Felicitas” – Belgrade, “Human Rights Centre – Uzice”, The Centre for Democratic Rights” – Lebane and from Bulgaria – “ZAR-Sofija, the trade union “Potkrepa”-Dupnica and IKAR-Haskovo.

The citizens who visited the exhibition were given flyers, post cards and brochures for the “Campaign for clean clothes – SSS”, as well as T-shirts and room refreshers with the campaign’s motto. A winning game was organized where citizens were given the task to determine how the salary of one women-worker is calculated. Unfortunately, the organizers say, nobody managed to make a correct guess.

The organizers were surprised by the fact that beside the bad weather, the exhibition was visited by 500 citizens from the Stip municipality, who filled in and sent postcards with their messages on the addresses of institutions they think could help to realize the rights of the women-workers in the textile companies throughout Macedonia. 180 postcards were filled in and sent by PPC to the above-mentioned institutions.
