  Issue 38  People

People: Andon Markovski

Let's create a possibility for mutual trust

Professional experience: Commercial Director at the Construction Company "Beton" - Skopje, specialty - construction of flats.

Engagement in the civic sector: Vice-president at the Union of Pensioners' Associations of Macedonia where he has been actively engaged since 1993. Works on protection of pensioners' rights guaranteed by the Constitution, the laws for pension and disability insurance, the Law for health insurance, solidarity funds, sport, culture and recreation of pensioners, deepening of the democratic processes and strengthening the civil society.

Hobbies and Interests: In my free time I work on horticultural decoration of my garden.

Toughest decision: Before I make any decision I think carefully, count to ten and then decide.

Ambitions: Helping the underprivileged to get their pensions regularly and on time, helping them to get their medicines, as well as organizing sport events, with cultural and entertaining programme, etc.

In his free time he reads: The daily press, books in the field of economy and law...

Where does he go in his free time: Once a week I attend the lectures at the "Third Age" at the Faculty of Philosophy. On the other days, I go for walks with my friends.

At weekends: In summer I go with my family by the Lake Treska or at other weekend location around Skopje. In winter I stay by the TV and watch football.

Which national/local problem does he find especially important and why: In my opinion, the question of biggest national interest is the security policy and the economic stability in the country. I think that this is the area it should be invested in and open new jobs for the young people, to make the Balkans and Europe without borders for the flow of knowledge, culture, goods, money, etc. It is also necessary to reduce the taxes, improve (decrease) the lending policy, open public jobs for mass employment of common, unskilled workers.
Another important thing is to pay attention to the environment (clean cities).

Which global problem does he find especially important and why: In any country one should respect the law, there should be no corruption and the legal cases to be resolved quickly. There should be no partization, to appreciate the professionalism and the competence of the people.

What would he change in Macedonia and the world: I would create a possibility for mutual trust among people, regardless of their nationality, religion or political belief. The Government, that is, the ministers should be in charge of a certain department according to their competence and not on the basis of political belonging.

Advice/message: Respect the fundamental values of Act 8 from the Macedonian Constitution: the basic freedoms and rights of the human and the citizen, recognized by the international law and guaranteed by the Constitution.
