FOSIM and the World Bank
Grants awarded to seven NGOs
On 19 October in Skopje the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia (FOSIM) and the World Bank Office in Skopje awarded a total of US$ 32,300 to seven NGOs for projects related to social exclusion of the youth in the Republic of Macedonia.
As stated in the World Bank press release at the MP Club, the FOSIM Executive Director Vladimir Milchin and acting director of the World Bank Office in Skopje Evgenij Najdov signed the grant agreements with the representatives of the seven organizations. Grants were awarded to “ERA” from Gostivar, which will open a resource Center for Youth Employment and promote informal education; the Youth Action and Diversity Center from Strumica will promote activities for disabled persons and lobby in front of the authorized entities for greater inclusion of the disabled in the community; the association of disabled persons – “Shpresa” from Skopje will organize a theatre performance that will speak and in a way lobby for the integration of disabled children in the schools; “Primus” from Skopje will work on setting up a ramp in the Youth Cultural Center in order to provide access for children with wheelchairs and organize fun activities for the youth.
The Red Cross of the City of Skopje will prepare a Guide for good manners towards disabled persons and organize trainings on the approach to the disabled and fostering this approach; “Rekanski biser” from Rostushe will conduct a campaign for raising the awareness among the young, especially girls from Mavrovo and Rostushe about the importance of education; “Blue Sky” from Skopje will organize education for its members regarding problems of socially excluded youth, particularly young disabled persons, says the announcement. With this joint project, while promoting the principle “youth for youth”, FOSIM and the World Bank are aiming at raising the awareness and visualization of social exclusion of the young, defining the frames, stakeholders, as well as supporting the active participation of the young in making changes in the social exclusion reduction process, reads the World Bank press release.
