New free SOS-telephone for children and young people by Medjasi

Dial 0800 1 2222 for advice against violence on children

From 2nd June until the end of the year, every working day from 8.30 a.m. until 8.30 p.m., for every kind of violence on children and young people, you can dial the new free SOS-telephone number of the First children embassy in the world (FCEW) “Medjasi” – 0800 1 2222, which is provided by A.D. – Macedonian telecommunications. What is different from the so far 12-year existence of the SOS-telephone, apart from the new number, is the home donation, different from the previous when the line was mostly financed by foreign donations.

The executive manager of FCEW Medjasi, Dragi Zmijanac, for this occasion stated: “Today, on the 12th anniversary from the opening of the first SOS-telephone for children and young people, it’s an honour to present the new free number of the SOS-telephone 0800 1 2222, but also the opening of the psychological counseling service for children and young people, promotion of a brochure because of the 12th anniversary of the SOS-telephone, as well as of a 12-minute video for promotion of the new SOS-telephone line”.

“Macedonian telecommunications, as socially responsible company, took the responsibility until the end of the year to provide free functioning of the SOS-telephone line for children and young people. With that, it gives a modest contribution for the protection of children in Macedonia”, points out Slave Mladenovski, manager for public relations at A.D.-Macedonian telecommunications.

Kristina Dickinson, an activist in the civil sector for many years, pointed out at the celebration: “The help by Macedonian telecommunications is not small. Small things make big things. And, moreover, it’s very easy to work with people dedicated to the protection of children and full of love towards them, as the people from Medjasi”.

The 12-year work of the SOS-telephone for children and young people was shortly presented by the coordinator Maja Korubin: “From the experience lasting for several years, I can say that the biggest part of the calls on the SOS-telephone, about 20%, refer to violence on children, but often they report also love problems, problems at school and in the family etc. And the initiative for opening a psychological counseling service for children and young people is from the children themselves, who stated that in the surveys on this topic that were conducted by Medjasi in several schools in Macedonia”.
