Foundation for Educational and Cultural Initiatives “Step by Step”

Activities for better quality education

The Foundation for Educational and Cultural Initiatives “Step by Step” from Skopje has been implementing educational projects for several years now, such as “Creative teaching and learning”, “Social Inclusion of children and young people from the economically undeveloped regions”, Children Creative Centre “Step by Step” in Skopje and Radovis, and since January 2004, they have also been implementing the project called “Roma Education Initiative”.

The project “Creative teaching and learning” has been implemented into 45 primary schools in the country, and the realization of the third phase – training in 15 primary schools started in September 2004. Seminars have been implemented consisting of three components: promotion of schools, educational techniques and training for using media techs. The project should strengthen the capacities of the teaching staff at schools and improve the quality of teaching. The project is financially supported by USAID and the Open Society Institute – Macedonia Foundation. The project Children Creative Centre  “Step by Step” from Skopje tends to animate the children and the visitors to the Centres in Skopje (Youth Cultural Centre) and Radovis, to learn and get to know the world though interactive games and fun. This project is financially supported by the Balkan Foundation for Children and Youth.

Another project was realized last year – “Roma Education Initiatives” – together with four Roma NGOs and four primary schools: two in Kumanovo, one in Prilep and one in Skopje. The organizations included in the project were DROM and KHAM from Kumanovo, Dendo Vas from Skopje and Help to Handicapped and Poor from Prilep, in order to work on strengthening the capacities of Roma children aged 5 to 18, as well as the teachers’ capacities at schools. The project is financially supported by the Open Society Institute  - Macedonia Foundation, USAID and OSI – Budapest.
