"Nijazi Bej"

Young people and the alternative tourism in Prespa

On 5 August 2003, the non-governmental organization "Nijazi Bej" and its partner "Musical Youth from Resen, promoted the project "Involving the young people in the development of the alternative tourism in the cross-border region of Prespa". The project was supported and financed by the Institute for Sustainable Communities.

The goal of this project to reduce the unemployment in the region of Prespa by increasing the number of employed young people in the alternative tourism. As the project coordinator Dzemal Mehmed said, the great number of local natural, cultural and archaeological attractions are ideal for organizing alternative forms of tourism. For that goal, a detailed plan for organizing the three alternative ways of tourism (boat tours, cultural and eco-tourism) will be made.

The project organizers have also announced the beginning of the visits to the local attractions, cultural and historic monuments, archaeological locations and organizing a 40-day practical and theoretical training for young people on alternative forms of tourism. The broader public in Macedonia will be informed on the attractions in the region of Prespa as a tourist destination, through campaigns with TV and radio programmes, articles in the daily newspapers and advertisements.
