Polio Plus
“On the barricades – against barricades”
At the end of January in Skopje, the civil society organization “Polio Plus” promoted the beginning of their new project “On the barricades – against barricades”, which they will be implementing together with the National Council of the Macedonian Organizations of the Disabled. The project’s goal is to raise the public awareness that the accessibility is a basic human right, and not a privilege. Liljana Popovska, the Chairwoman of the Coordinative Body of the Inter-parliamentary Lobby group pointed out that attention will be paid to seven subjects in the city: accessibility, children on the streets, helping children who after having completed 18 years of age leave the orphanages, homeless people’s shelters, psychosocial help, help to the soup-kitchens for people with existential problems, as well as the centre for drug addicts. “The cooperation we established with the City of Skopje Coordinative Body is of great importance. The people with disabilities are like all the other members of the community, sharing the same rights and needs. Access ramps will be built to the University Library, the Macedonian Opera and Ballet, the Army House and the polyclinic “Jane Sandanski” in Aerodrom, said Ankica Ivanovska, one of the people involved in the project’s implementation.
The total construction work cost is 18 thousand US dollars. The project is being implemented with the Municipality Development Programme and is supported by the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank.
