Instead of going hunting, the politicians plant trees

Skopje got itself a Park of Tolerance

The Spring Day and the Ecology Day were marked in Skopje by opening the Park of Tolerance, located in the vicinity of the Military Hospital in Skopje. This park will replace the traditional “Diplomatic Hunting”. The Park of Tolerance was opened on the initiative of the President Branko Crvenkovski, and the basic idea is to replace the animal hunting with planting trees and other plants, thus contributing to the efforts for animal and environmental protection. The park stretches on four hectares and will be divided into five sections, symbolizing the five continents, respectively. Each part is supposed to illustrate the geographic and the vegetative characteristics of the region, that is, the continent. The park was called “Park of Tolerance” as a symbol of dialogue and understanding between the nations and promotion of their diversities.

“The opening of this park is part of the constant attempt to give meaning to the urban locations in a human way, as well as the attempt to show the importance of the question of mutual understanding of people”, said the president Crvenkovski at the opening. He emphasized that the tolerance understands a possibility for coexistence of various cultures, nations and confessions, regardless of the individual attitude. The Croatian Ambassador, Aleksandar Milosevik, emphasized that the Park confirms that Macedonia and its capital city are an inevitable part of the values that today’s civilization can be proud of. “I sincerely hope that the tolerance, that is, the trees in this park will make great progress, since, without tolerance, parks and without progressive and happy Macedonia, neither we as individuals nor our countries and their citizens would be happy”, said the Croatian Ambassador Milosevik. The president of “Biosfera – Bitola”, Nesad Azemovski, thinks that the idea for revocation of the “Diplomatic Hunting” is a strong motive for eradicating the illegal hunting and protection of the wild animals in Macedonia.
