Take care of your health

The Organization of Women of the municipality Sveti Nikole (OWSN), in cooperation with the Association of citizens “Zivotna iskra” and the Clinical centre from Skopje, on 29th November held a tribune on the topic “Take care of your health”. The main accent of the tribune was put on the fight against breast cancer, and presentations were given by Dr Svetlana Antevska from the Department for X-ray who talked about the early diagnosis of the breast cancer, Dr Tanja Andreeva from the Department for toracal surgery who gave a summary of the operation process and removing the breast cancer and the associate professor Slavica Kraleva from the Department for radiology and oncology who talked about the postoperation treatment of  diseased women. A representative of the Maco plant (programme MEDICUS HELP) was present on the tribune as well, and Bobica Handziska presented the braces, bras and wigs for diseased women to those who attended the tribune. Violeta Tomovska - “Zivotna iskra” also gave a speech on the tribune, and Dr Gordana Miteva from Sveti Nikole presented the experience of the Organization of Women of the municipality Sveti Nikole in the fight against breast cancer.

It was pointed out by OWSN that from the beginning of October the Organization started organizing workshops for the women who are diseased and who are treated from malignant diseases of the reproductive organs and breast cancer in Sveti Nikole. The aim of the meetings is to give a possibility to diseased women to share their problems and to give mutual support in the direction of quicker overcoming of the problems and consequences of these diseases.

“Stop for the illegal work of the women”

180,000 workers in Macedonia work illegally, 60% of which are women

With the moto “Stop for the illegal work of the women”, the Section of women by the Trade union of Macedonia on 10th December this year started the campaign for respect of the dignity of labour - against illegal work. The campaign was started at the same time by the women organizations in the trade unions of 23 countries from Central and Eastern Europe, joined in the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions - ICFTU. “With the campaign”, says Liljana Jankulovska, president of the Section of women by TUM, “we raise our voice against abuse and harsh exploitation of labour, unfulfilment of the workers’ rights, insufficiently paid labour, absence of social insurance (pension and health) and abuse of working time.” However, according to official data, the illegal work in Republic of Macedonia is present in all spheres, even in the state organs and participates with about 45% in the gross domestic product. “180,000 workers”, says Jankulovska, “work illegally, 60% of which are women”.

The basic and final aim of the Campaign is legalizing the work relation. “The Section of women by TUM will take over more activities within the campaign”, says Mimoza Vujosevik, coordinator of the Campaign. “The women that work illegally will be informed and educated, a special, free phone line for their calls will be opened, tribunes, round tables, open forums will be organized, in order to introduce the public with the problems that the illegal work of women causes. We will try to organize them in trade unions, because together we can do much more in the fight against illegal work and we will suggest proper changes and amendments to laws which will provide the employers to legalize the work relations of the workers retroactively and to strengthen the penalty politics for illegal work”, says Vujosevik. The Campaign will last during the whole 2005.
