UMWO

Member of the International Council of Women
 

The General Assembly of the International Council of Women - ICW took place from 1-5 September this year in Perth, Australia.

The Union of Macedonian Women Organizations (UMWO) was accepted at the General Assembly an equal member of the International Council of Women, that is, a National Council of the Republic of Macedonia Women. UMWO is the first women organization from the region of Balkans to become a member of "ICW".

The body members of the International Council of Women have been elected at the General Assembly and several resolutions have been passed. The new president of the Council is Anama Tan from the Singapore National Council. A conference was held as well, where the UMWO president, Savka Todorovska and professor Slobodanka Markovska took part.

The International Council of Women is one of the oldest NGOs in the world, which has so far included 63 national committees from all over the world. This organization was founded in 1988 in Washington, and today the secretariat is located in Paris. The council's mission is peace, equal rights, education and responsibilities for both man and women, elimination of women discrimination, respecting the benefits of women's work and their contribution in the society, human rights and complete women participation in the public life.
