Charities in terror fund spotlight
Oct 16 (AlertNet) - Charities are increasingly in the spotlight as fears that NGOs could be financing extremist violence invite official scrutiny, BBC News said in its online edition.
More than two years after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, regulators around the world remain concerned that NGOs could be unwitting or deliberate conduits for funding extremism, the BBC said. For Islamic charities in particular, the new focus is unwelcome but not surprising. Many NGOs say they are being tainted with unjustified suspicions simply because of their Muslim backgrounds.
