Association of labor invalids from Radovish
The number of inaccessible places reduced
The association of labor invalids, together with its partner-organization Inter-municipality association of physically handicapped individuals, have successfully realized the project called “Open the doors for us”, which was financially supported by Phare – SEE, Handicap International, the Great Britain International Development Department – DFIS and the European Commission, through the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
The handicapped people who live in the municipalities of Radovish ad Konce face the serious problem of not being able to access the institutions in their area every day. The researches have shown that the problem of inaccessibility is almost 100% unsolved, not only regarding the local institutions, but also when it comes to private institutions like banks, shopping centers, restaurants, etc.
About 1000 people with disabilities who live in the municipalities Radovish and Konce cannot visit a cultural event, cannot rent a book by themselves, and cannot go to a sports event. They have no access to the latest communication technologies (computers and the internet), those who are out of their homes cannot take out the necessary documents from the local institutions since they cannot access them. The project covered the construction of access ramps for the disabled at the Cultural Centre “Aco Karamanov” and the City Library “Braka Miladinovci”, as well as at the town pharmacies. The TV and radio adverts and fliers were aimed at raising the awareness among the citizens. The project realization involved a lawyer, a social worker, municipality representatives, volunteers and other members from both associations.
