PRESENTATION: Memorial Fund "Borjan Tanevski"

In memory of the young European from Macedonia

Borjan was a student every professor dreams about. - were the words of Walter Miller, professor at the American College in Thessalonica, said in front of the big auditorium at the promotion of Memorial Fund "Borjan Tanevski" that took place on 17 December in Skopje. Borjan Tanevski was a graduate student at this college, whose sudden and unexpected fatal disease disabled his further education at the prestigious European universities.

The Memorial Fund of the young European from Macedonia, favourite among his professors and fellows in Thessalonica, as well as among his friends and fellow students in Skopje, was established on the initiative of the American College, which is part of the well-known Anatolia College. It was established in June 2003, few months after Borjan Tanevski's death. He, as professor Miller emphasized, was established not only in the memory of the wonderful personality of Borjan, but also as a continuation of his ideas for peace and cooperation in the region of South-Eastern Europe. Borjan was a prominent student, whose ideas, intellect and spirit brought him the respect of all professors. He was a favourite friend among students, who, after his death, planted a tree in the college yard. "The tree is growing, I see it every day from my office. I hope that Borjan's ideas will progress even faster" - said professor Miller.

Borjan Tanevski dreamt to become one of the leaders who will make the Balkans a place where peace, democracy, prosperity and cooperation among all people ill rule and make way to the tolerance and the intercultural dialogue.

The Fund is open for donations and sponsorships, that will be aimed for scholarships for prominent students. This award will be presented annually, through an essay competition that will be open for all students at the American College in Thessalonica. The awarded will be selected by a five-member international jury, consisting of one member from Macedonia, as well, PhD. Mirjana Maleska, professor at the University of South-Eastern Europe in Tetovo. All donations for the Memorial Fund "Borjan Tanevski" can be paid through the Alpha Bank. For more detailed information on this fund, visit the web-site www.borjan.net/mk, or at the Fund's office in Skopje on: 02/2031-193.
