MCIC ACTIVITY

 Humanitarian packages for 3.000 families

This project aims at giving single help in the form of food and hygiene material packages to displaced people and vulnerable groups (single mothers, invalids, old and ......people) who strongly felt the economic consequences of the crisis that our country find itself in.

The news that on Friday, March 29, a lorry, carrying humanitarian help was going to arrive spread quickly on the streets of Tetovo.
A group of citizens gathered around St. Cyril and Methodius Church where number of packages were unloaded. The packages were donated by the MCIC as a single help for displaced people and vulnerable groups from the regions located in the conflict zone.

Aims

The MCIC project aims at providing basic food, hygiene products and blankets for displaced families, in the form of food and hygiene products, which, as additional income will enable the families to save part of the expenses at the moment of the critical condition that our country finds itself in. Apart from the displaced people, on the humanitarian package distribution list, there were also traditionally vulnerable groups, which are always badly struck by any critical condition: single mothers, invalids, old and weak people, etc.

Quantities

MCIC donated packages for 3.000 families with about 12.000 individual users.
About half of the humanitarian help was distributed through ”Gakonija” in Skopje and in Tetovo, and the rest of the packages were distributed through El Hilal in Kumanovo, Skopje and Tetovo and further in the region through “Mesecina” association.
Pensioners’ Union from Tetovo distributed packages to the old people.
Financial means for this humanitarian activity were provided by the Danish Church aid.

Displaced people

According to the MCIC data, the number of displaced people from the critical regions in Macedonia, registered at the Macedonian Red Cross, until March 25 is 18 621. Most of them are from the area of Tetovo, Skopska Crna Gora and the mountain villages along the north Macedonian border. At the moment, most of the displaced people are settled in Skopje (12.241),  Debar (968), Gostivar (811), Prilep (757), Kumanovo (711) etc.
According to the information we received from the non-governmental organizations’ activities in these regions, there is certain number of displaced families who were not registered at the Red Cross, so the official numbers are probably much higher.
The social condition of Macedonian citizens was not satisfying even before the beginning of the crisis and now it only became worse. When MCIC decided to conduct this project, their motif was the need to alleviate such condition
