News from “Vodovod i kanalizacija” for the blind people

Water bills in Braille’s alphabet
 

Starting from February 2006, the blind people in Skopje will receive water bills written in the Braille’s alphabet.

Apart from the regular water bill, the public enterprise “Vodovod i kanalizacija” will be sending special bills to the people with impaired sight. With this practice, the management of “Vodovod and kanalizacija” hopes to provide an easier way of informing these beneficiaries, thus giving them an equal treatment as their co-citizens.

This communal enterprise is planning to renovate the pay-points, making them approachable to the people with special needs. “Vodovod and kanalizacii” is realizing these activities in cooperation with the Union of Blind People of the Republic of Macedonia. According to the officials at “Vodovod”, no other institution from the Balkans has ever taken care of the blind people’s rights in that manner. The human gesture was accepted with applause from all members of the Union, and in future it is expected that all other public enterprises follow this path, thus helping the blind people deal with their handicap more easily.
