Being informed – citizens’ right and need
Are the Macedonian citizens becoming more aware of the need for information regarding all that is going on in the society they live in? Where their money goes, what and which are the responsibilities of the authorities on national and local level for the development of the country and its future? Have the new generations of citizens been born yet? Those who react to the need for becoming part of the rest of the world through the information and communication technology more quickly and more bravely; citizens who know how to ask for it loudly and with arguments? Yes, definitely! This September, the media informed on the citizens interest to contribute to the passing of the necessary Law for free access to information, for passing of the National strategy for development of the information society in the Parliament and the conference “Macedonia, too 2005”, under the patronage of the President Branko Crvenkovski. The citizens attitudes, opinions, and questions to the government were transmitted, which due to the lack of the necessary law for channeling them to the right place and providing on-time and correct answer, remain unsent, yet present in the homes, in the media, but without the right effect.
In this part of the century, when the need of being informed is an exclusive citizens’ right and need for their integration in all segments of the community, which also determines its development, Macedonian citizens too, need open fields for expressing their potentials.
The society’s democratization depends on the free access to information, the openness towards the world, keeping pace with what is going go beyond our borders. The citizens know that, not always because of their level of education, but very often because of their experience.
