21 September, International Peace Day marked
Let there be peace on Earth!
This year, the International Peace Day, 21 September was marked in Macedonia for the first time. The initiators of the manifestation were the NGOs Civil, Caritas France and the Mayor of Centar municipality, Mrs. Violeta Alarova. As a sign of support to the global processes and peace movements, the organizers strive for establishing the International Peace Day as the official peace day in Macedonia.
The International Peace Day started with a media presentation, and continued with a music happening (with famous Macedonian DJs) that took place in front of the Army House. The youngest were also part of the activities, who sent appeals with their performances to the grown-ups that their world depends on the actions of the adults. The activities of Civil and Caritas France were enriched with the project of the partner-civil society organizations from several towns in Macedonia: Ethnocentre - Balkanika from Tetovo, Mesecina from Gostivar, Tolerance from Struga, The Youth Council Prilep, Amos, Civic Paths and The Youth Cultural Center from Bitola. The citizens of Skopje, the religious communities and the civil society activists with their presents, supported the initiative that Macedonia joined the global peace movement. However, besides the personal invitations for the highest rank politicians for supporting the International Peace Day, only the President of the Parliament, Mr. Ljupco Jordanovski and the Mayor of Skopje, Mr. Trifun Kostovski, supported the initiative in written form. The presence of people who make the decisions lacked at the event.
Civil and Caritas France will continue the activities in the future period, proclaiming the period between 21 September and 23 October – the Month of Peace, thus supporting the one-week festival Peace Unlimited that has existed for six years and takes place from 24 to 30 October.
