Rich tradition of civic associating

It was enough, thanks to the employees in the State Archive of the Republic of Macedonia, to take a look at the funds and collections registers, in order to get familiar with the rich tradition of civic associating and civic activism which existed centuries ago. Although they were differently called, these associations were based on quite similar principles, and probably programs, as today’s civic associations.

In the Archive’s documentation various guild associations have been registered (Grocers’ guild from Bitola, Association of civil entrepreneurs from Skopje), humanitarian associations, cultural-educational and scientific associations (geographic-ethnographic association Jovan Cvijik from Skopje, Macedonian literary circle from Sofia, Actors’ Association of Kingdom Yugoslavia – section Skopje) and many others (Macedonian patriotic organization in the USA, Association “United Prespa” in Australia, association of the children-refugees from the Aegean part of Macedonia in Canada, Australia, Romania)...
