People: Zora Ivanovska

Don’t do to the others what you don’t want to be done to yourselves

Professional experience: I have been working for thirty years in the shoe-making industry, where most of the women were from different nationalities and backgrounds. It was there that I realized we are all different, yet the same.

Engagement in the civil sector: I began working for the civil sector back in 1980, as a women representative from my company in the municipality organization of KOPAZ,. After the transformation that took place in 1999, I have been a member of the Kumanovo Women Organization as their activist. I considered it was necessary to establish a women civil society organization that will bear the name of a woman-soldier from Kumanovo, so, in 1999, our town got a women organization called ”Nada Mihajlova”, of which I am the president.

With unselfish efforts from all the members, we managed to accomplish noticeable results, especially in the year of crisis-2001, when the women wisdom was more than necessary to overcome the conflict situation in the region of Kumanovo and Lipkovo.

Ambitions: Continuous professional upgrading, gaining new experiences and knowledge in different ways, meeting people from various parts, cultures and traditions.

Hobbies and interests: I write poetry inspired by the everyday living and some interesting events. So far I have published two collections of poems, together with the other members of the organization.

In her free time she reads: Everything that I find good and interesting, but poetry always comes first.

At weekends: I spend my weekends going on excursions, organized by different associations.

Toughest decision: Once, a woman accused me for nothing I have done, without having proofs for her accusations. I was in a dilemma whether to hate her or feel sorry for her. I decided on the latter.

Which national (local) problem does she find especially important: For the Kumanovo citizens, a town that used to be a great industrial center, the unemployment is the biggest problem.

Which global problem does she find especially important and why: The terrorism, the violence of any kind and against any of us, together with the drug abuse, are the biggest crimes of the century.

What would she change in Macedonia and in the world: I would reduce the unemployment for the social and economic benefit of the people.

Advice (message): Don’t do to the others what you don’t want to be done to yourselves.
