Promedia

Manuals for free access to information promoted

The civil society organization “Promedia” has promoted three publications for free access to information. They are in fact, translated versions of Toby Mendel’s books “Comparative legal review” and the guides for office workers and information searchers. The publications are part of the project “Free access to information – Macedonia programme”, financed by the European Commission. The promoted work, “Comparative legal review” states the examples of 60 states where there is a law for free access to information and international standards, as well as national legislative in the area of free access to information. The manuals for the office workers and the information searchers are designed to help the users get the wanted information more easily.

“For a country that is making efforts to join the EU, the rules for transparency are very important for all its sectors”, said the EU Ambassador in Macedonia, Erwan Fuere, at the manuals’ promotion. He assessed that we should take into consideration the civil society organization’s remarks on the proposed law. According to the OSCE Deputy-Ambassador in Macedonia, Natalija Drozd, the law for free access to information will serve as a basis for a transparent work of the country, as well as the local institutions, the courts and the public enterprises. “The Law must give clear directions to those having the information and try to provide them with the culture of openness, at the same time being an efficient instrument for the citizens in case they feel that due to a certain mistake they have not been allowed free access to some information”, said the Ambassador Drozd. The “Promedia” Director, Klime Babunski who has also spoken at the promotion said: “We have tried to spread a virus for free access to information in Macedonia and I hope we managed to infect you. The final success or the lack of it will be proved when the law is voted and applied”. At the promotion, “Promedia” awarded certificates to the first educators for free access to information in the country who had gone through the training.
