National Council of Women of Macedonia organizes a round table
Equal opportunities on local level
In Veles on 17 December a regional round table was held on topic “Equal opportunities on local level”, organized by the National Council of Women of Macedonia (NSZM) in cooperation with OSCE and the US Embassy. The tribune, first of the projected three, was aimed at coordinators and commissions for equal opportunities from this region which covers 26 municipalities. The unfavorable weather conditions were the reason only representatives from Prilep, Negotino, Caska, Gradsko and Veles to take part at the round table. Biljana Manaskova, coordinator of the Commission for equal opportunities of municipality of Veles and the NSZM representative Gordana Trenkoska held lectures on topics “Mechanisms for introduction of gender concept on local level” and “Defining the importance of introducing a gender concept”.
The goal of the round table, as Trenkovska stated, was to promote gender concept on a local level and at the same time to promote a manual for commissions and coordinators for equal opportunities. Their obligations are explained in it as well as the principles of work of commissions for equal opportunities. 69 commissions for equal opportunities have been formed in Macedonia so far and 64 have coordinators elected. Such round tables will be held in Gostivar and Kumanovo by the end of the year.
