The First “White Nights” in Skopje

UN awards for journalism and photography presented

On the occasion of the International Week for Poverty Reduction that took place from 17 to 24 October 2005, the UNDP permanent representative’s office in Macedonia, presented the UN awards for journalism and photography on subjects that address the poverty issues in the country. The awards were presented on 22 October in Skopje

within the manifestation “White Nights”, thus marking the International UN Day – 24 October and the UN 60th Anniversary.

The awards for journalism (for the press) were given to: Husamedin Gama – First Prize Winner (1,000 US dollars), for his text published in the newspaper “Vreme” entitled “Children labour for a slice of bread – abuse or need”; Daniela Trpcevska – Second Prize (750 US dollars) for her text published in the “Utrinski Vesnik” called “I sell my award for bravery for a piece of bread”; and Todor Stojcevski – Third Prize (500 US dollars) for the text in the magazine “Enter” called “Internet in the Stip way”. The media reporters were also given awards. The First Prize Winner for the best TV …(1,000 dollars) was Maja Jovanovska from A1 TV for her reportage ”Ivica Mitrovik looks after his sick parents alone”; The Second Prize went to Milihate Fazlija, a radio reporter of Vati Radio. The photography award worth 1,000 US dollars was given to the photographer Robert Jaki.
