How to disarm ourselves?

In this issue of "Civic World" we are asking a question which, unfortunately, has been present in this region for too long: how to disarm ourselves?. We are asking you - what and how much can ordinary citizens do in that respect? Can the citizen contribute to the process of disarming and in what way?

If you have any opinion o this question, we invite you to take part at the Forum on the web-sites: www.graganskisvet.org.mk and www.civicworld.org.mk. Please state your full name and surname and the name of your organization, if member of any. For a start, we preset an interesting opinion on this subject:

Dragana - Dina Mitrovik, "New Life", Stip:

Although the bearers of the implementation of the National programme for increasing the general security through volunteer disarming are the Coordinative Body (in which there is an NGO representative) and the commissions it assigns, much space has been left for involvement of the civic associations. Domestic organizations can take part with activities for giving trust, supporting and encouraging the people for volunteer disarming. During the action that will last by the middle of December this year, the citizens can involve in monitoring the points for collecting the weapons. I believe that civic organizations will show interest for active participation in the campaign and the action for volunteer return of the weapons. The proof for that was the survey done by an association form Gostivar on the peoples opinion regarding the weapons in Macedonia, the fears and hopes for the implementation of the Law for volunteer disarming. I am also informed about the preparations of certain NGOs for becoming part of this campaign. I am convinced that there is enough space and interest for involving the civic sector in this action, that will contribute to its greater success and providing security for everyone. I am an optimist!
