In memoriam

Balkan Leader who did not preach war

The Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation (MCIC) in these moments of deep mourning for the tragic loss of Mr. Boris Trajkovski, President of the Republic of Macedonia, and his associates and fellow-travellers, sympathizes with the great loss and pain of their families in first place. It is also a great loss for the Macedonian people and the region in general. Mr. Boris Trajkovski was a man with faith and trust in people and his country - Macedonia.  Without doubt, he left us with the memory of his determination for peace and non-violence, coexistence and integration, and respect for everyone. He was unique in his availability for the others and his readiness to hear other people's opinions.

Mr. Boris Trajkovski was open for cooperation and was giving active support to the civic sector. We will always remember his contributions in encouraging the inter-religious dialogue in 1996 and 2001/2; his support to the humanitarian help in 1999 and 2001; his support of the NGO Fair - The Forum of the Civil Society 2001-2003; his support of people with special needs and the award "Volcano 2003", as well as many other kinds of support to the civic initiatives and the civic sector in general.

"My political philosophy would not have been complete if I had not worked in the civic sector until 1997", said Mr. Boris Trajkovski, President of the Republic of Macedonia, November 2003. With that attitude, Mr. Boris Trajkovski was an important supporter of the civil society and democracy in Macedonia and the European integrations.

Mr. Boris Trajkovski was not always understood by others. It might be due to the fact that he was a Balkan leader who did not preach war.

His final effort was that Macedonia, together with the whole region make the key step in the realizing the ambition to become the member of the European Union.

We shall keep the memory of Mr. Boris Trajkovski by continuing our way on the common path.
