The City of Skopje has designed a strategy for cooperation with the NGO
The City of Skopje in cooperation with the Center for Institutional Development (CIRa) and with financial support from OSCE, has prepared the Strategy of the City of Skopje for cooperation with the civil society organizations and has also designed a plan for its realization.
Six participative workshops were realized in the preparatory process where about 100 CSOs took part. The ways of cooperation between the City of Skopje and the civil society organizations have been identified and defined as a result of this cooperation. They are presented in the final document called “Strategy of the City of Skopje for cooperation with the civil society organizations for the period 2007-2010”.
The president of the City’s Council, Blagoja Corevski, emphasized at the promotion of this document that promoting the cooperation between the City of Skopje and the CSOs and foundations by building mutual partnership relations is a reflection of respecting the civil sector’s high values and capacities and it emphasizes their contribution in making efforts to meet the citizens’ interests and needs.
“The City of Skopje realized how important the civil society organizations are in terms of promoting the democracy, expressing high level of efficiency and skillfulness; we saw partners in them, especially when it comes to resolving issues of mutual interest. The Strategy includes the basis of cooperation between the City of Skopje and the civil society organizations, and the act of passing such a strategy, we want to show our dedication to systematically try to strengthen the basic conditions for faster and more efficient development of this sector”, Corevski said. The City of Skopje administration is going to base the future cooperation on the principles of partnership, mutual trust, participation and consultations, transparency, independence and accountability. Its main objective is to enable active involvement of the civil society organizations in the processes of defining developing activities and initiatives of the city, as well as to create conditions for establishing efficient partnerships.
The implementation of the Strategy foresees setting up a city CSO support center, realization of concrete projects such as protection of Gazi Baba park-forest, projects dedicated to drugs protection, protection from all kinds of violence, strengthening the interethnic relations, promotion of gender equality, etc. The Strategy is a mid-term document the implementation of which is going to continue until 2010.
