The Macedonian centre for independent initiative (MCII) from Radovis is a citizen  association, formed with free gathering of the citizens in order to fulfil their interests. MCII was founded on 24th April 2001.

One of the basic goals of the association is strenthening the civil society and democracy in RM. The association strives for the development of democracy, civil society, human rights and strengthening the civil sector.

MCII cooperates with many associations of citizens from the municipality, but also from the wider area, and is also a part of the net organizations of the Civil association MOST through which it realized the projects of monitoring three election cycles – Parliamentary elections 2002, President elections 2004 and monitoring the referendum declaring 2004. As part of the net organization, MCII participated in the monitoring of the President elections in Ukraina as part of the mission of ENEMO in November 2004.

“The cooperation with the CA MOST also takes place on the project ‘Mobile parliament’”, says Tanja Mileva, president of the association, “through which in the municipality Radovis there was a meeting of MPs with citizens from the municipality on the subjest ‘The economy in Radovis, sales, investments, future’. We are included in the net of projects ‘It’s enough’, NGO Parliament and in the Campaign for disarmament”, she adds.

So far MCII has realized many projects, some of which are: “Drug addiction and crime (fight and prevention of these addictions) in the municipalities Radovis, Podares and Konce”, “The youth in the process of eurointegration”, “Entertainment and gathering of the youth through sport”, “Education of women voters for the elections in the rural areas” and “Training for gender relations”, and at the moment the project “Don’t live in darkness, inform on time for the sexually transmitted diseases” is being implemented. According to Tanja Mileva, the priority activity of MCII in 2005 will be opening an office in the premises of the municipality in order to strengthen the cooperation between the local self-government and the citizens of the municipality Radovis.

Zvegor Surva, Black faces, bright hearts
Reportage
On 14 January in Zvegor, everybody had dark, smiling and joyful faces. Dark on your face symbolizes happiness, it chases the evil spirits, it also means health and wealth in the upcoming year. Even the drivers of the big trucks, the tourists with skis on top of their cars and all the others who had to go through Zvegor in order to reach Bulgaria or go back in Macedonia were stopped, their faces were made dark, and they had to pay “tax” to the Zvegor “surovarskars”. Some of the village “beauties” (which were, in fact, men, dresses as women) have even tried to enter the truck cabins and pass the wish for a happy new summer to the truck drivers with a kiss!
