PRESENTATION: VIZANIUS - KUMANOVO 

Priority – Young People Education for Cultural Heritage Protection

By the end of the last year, a new civic association was established in Kumanovo, which is going to deal with researches and cultural monuments protection in the area of Kumanovo and wider. The organization is called Association for researches and cultural heritage protection “Vizianius”. Vizianius has already made contacts with professional institutions in this field from the country for the realization of its goal, which is affirmation of the care and protection of the cultural heritage, and it expects their help in the realization of the above mentioned goals.

According to the president of this organization, MA Zvonimir Nikolovski, the idea for establishing Vizianius came from the acute condition of the cultural monuments in the region of Kumanovo and the country in general. Nikolovski, who is himself an expert in this field, and a group of his colleagues will try to give their contribution to the Macedonian archaeology, ethnology, history and art.

This association will put an emphasis on the field activities, they will be done in all levels and it will also offer assistance in protecting and documenting the material remnants from all epochs. Great deal of this association’s work will be dedicated to the continual informing and educating the youth for the Macedonian cultural heritage, through excursions and explorations of archaeological remnants of old towns, fortresses, settlements, cultural monuments…In relation to it, several components are going to be involved – the archaeological, ethnological, historical, architectonic, museum-conservatory, aesthetical, ecological and tourist component.

Vizianius is financed by personal resources, through sponsorships and donations from certain foundations and other resources.

The associations invites all interested in this problem, from the civic or governmental sector to cooperate.
