"Friends to Macedonia"
Regional Democracy Camp - the Green City municipality
The civic organization "Friends to Macedonia" organized the "Regional Democracy Camp - Green City municipality" for the second time. It took place at the boarding school "Boro Menkov" in Kriva Palanka form 13 to 22 January 2003. The goal of the camp was educate people how the local community functions through an interactive process of simulation.
The regional democracy camp is based on practical examples and solving problems for raising the awareness of the importance of democracy and understanding the local self-government as a nucleus of a strong democratic nation and its main feature - the civic society lead by the people's will. The camp is a simulation of a municipality called "Green City", with 55 inhabitants - high school students from Kumanovo, Kriva Palanka, Kocani, Probishtip, Lipkovo, Vinica, Kratovo, Sveti Nikole and Zrnovci, who, through this progressive and thematic ten-day camp tried to enter the local self-government, business and the environment. The civic association "Friends to Macedonia" has organized this camp in cooperation with the Regional Development Agency from Kriva Palanka and the municipality Kriva Palanka, and it was financed by IOM - CBI, Kocani.
The first phase of the camp was awarded as one of the most successful projects in the past year from the financers IOM - CBI.
"Some of the tasks and goals of "Friends to Macedonia" is the protection and promotion of the environment; promotion of the democracy and civic education; promotion of the entrepreneurship and small businesses as a supporting force in the society; strengthening the trust among Macedonian citizens and promotion of volunteering as a form of civic action.
