Promotion in Bitola
“Light weapons-heavy problem”
In Bitola, on 22 November, a project was promoted which started the campaign for improving the security of the citizens of Bitola. The project “Light weapons – heavy problem” was initiated by the civil society organization “Stop-nus”, in cooperation with the local self-government and the police, financed by UNDP. “Through a direct meeting with the citizens, we would like to point out the dangers of light weapons. There are 137.000 pieces of legally registered weapons and about 150.000 pieces of illegal weapons, which is a dangerous warning figure for each family and therefore we would like the government and competent institutions to solve this problem”, stated the president of the Bitola “Stop-nus”, Kostadin Popovski. He confirmed that yesterday in the municipality of Novaci in a village yard, during some construction works, 74 pieces of artillery shells were grouped in one place. The local police are also included in the campaign for improving citizens’ security. “According to our experiences, individuals are injured due to inappropriate use of weapons or most often it is about young people who use bangers and other explosive substances. Therefore we appeal for these dangerous things not to be used and at the same time we continue with preventive, operational and repressive actions towards people who deal explosive substances”, pointed out the representative of the Bitola police, Milos Jovancevski at the promotion.
