CIU Multimedia has realized a project in Stip
Development, labor and gender
The performing arts center Multimedia continued with the implementation of the project “Through woman’s perspective” by organizing the first national debate called “Development, labor and gender” on 24 April in Stip. A public art exhibition took place the previous day at the Stip Mall. Multimedia and Chiapas Media Project from Chicago, USA presented a video program and a sound performance with the sounds from the textile industry.
In its essence, the project carries the ides for gender equality and addressing the social issues by using the art as a tool for social changes. The women and labor issue was in the focus of the debate. The participants criticized the relation between the industrialization and the gender in Macedonia, the appearance of factories where young women are dominant, but also the ways in which the concept of the economic violence and the textile industry in Stip can be researched. Participants were relevant civil society organizations from Skopje and Stip, from the Commission for equal opportunities for men and women from Stip, the Ombudsman and representatives from the Municipality Labor Inspection, as well as representatives from the textile industry. The main goal of this debate, and of the project in general, is to raise the public awareness of the existing women problems, to show how the artists, both male and female, can create awareness by using participatory art and how they can contribute to reexamining the cultural and social changes in Macedonia and Europe. The project is financed by the FIOOM East – East program.
