30 June and 1 July: Museums and education
The foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia organizes a seminar at the Museum for Contemporary Art in Skopje on the educational programmes and experiences of the museums in Macedonia and in Great Britain. Mr. Martin Watts, an expert from Great Britain will be present at the seminar.

 

8 and 10 July: Blacksmiths from Berovo in Skopje
The blacksmiths from Berovo will resent themselves at the Cultural Centre “Tocka” in Skopje. They will demonstrate their traditional skill and display the hand-made products. Some of them are made according to the design of the artist Slavica Janeslieva. The blacksmiths project is part of the “Living Heritage” programme of the foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia. 

 

11 July: Day of the world population
We are expecting the 6.5-billion inhabitant to be born this year, on the Day of the World Population. UN warns about the demographic explosion as a threat to the humanity, especially when it is related to the problems such as poverty, enormous urbanization, the lack and the degradation of the natural resources, most of all the drinking water. 

 

28 August: Miners’ Day
This is the day that the miners celebrate. The miners profession is one of the riskiest, and at the same time, one of the least paid in the world. It needs to be promoted! The security and the health protection measures at work are the key needs and requirements of the miners, regardless of whether they work in the underground pits or the oil platforms in the oceans.

 

1 and 3 August: Communication in a risky environment
The International Journalist Centre and the Summer University of Amsterdam-Mastricht are organizing a seminar in Mastricht on “Communication in a risky environment: challenge of enlarged Europe”. You can apply at www.ejc.nl .
