Hristijan Jankuloski

Every person is valuable and meaningful

Professional experience:
HOPS administrative and financial director. Technical assistant for the town of Gostivar, in charge of the developing the programme for damage reduction in Gostivar. He is also an associate of the HOPS programme supporting the drug centers in the country. National consultant in the CARDS Ministry if Health Twinning Programme “Crime related drug abuse” which grants Macedonia the National Strategy on Drugs Control.

Engagement in the civil sector:
The beginnings of his engagement in the civil sector date back to the time when I was 14, i.e. in 1992, working at the Prilep Red Cross. I continued with my activities at the high school centre “Tome Stefanovski – Seniv” in Skopje through the central Red Cross organization that I have set up myself. In 2000, I became a member of the civil society association KONTAKT that worked on preventing the drug abuse at high schools in Skopje. Since then, I have worked for HOPS. In my native town, Prilep, I got involved in the Prilep Youth Council activities on whose initiative, in 2004, we initiated the establishing of the Youth Organizations Coalition “SEGA”, and in 2005, we established the Youth Network for Damage Reduction which has been active in the field of advocacy and lobbying for the vulnerable groups’ rights and for reducing the stigma and the discrimination of those groups. At present, I am completely devoted to completing my dentist studies and to the development of my organization HOPS.

Hobbies and interests:
I am always keen on watching some great science fiction film, such as Star Wars or The War of the Worlds.

Toughest decision:
I have always had to make tough decisions in my life, but I would say that the toughest one was when I had to decide on the new engagement at HOPS.

Ambitions:
I would like to work at the United Nations on a mission in Africa.

In his free time he reads:
Although I do not have much free time, I enjoy reading professional literature about dental surgery and the field I work in.

Where does he go in his free time?
I spend it with my girlfriend and my friends and colleagues.

At weekends:
I watch football, spend time with friends in some cafes in Skopje and I try to sleep and have a rest as much as possible

What national/local problem does he find especially important and why?
Not involving the civil sector and the services’ beneficiaries in the creation of local policies and strategies. Every time a policy is designed concerning certain group or individuals, that group or individuals have to be consulted whether the solutions being offered provide answers to their problems and needs

Which global problem does he find especially important and why?
The stigma and the prejudices that people have about those who are nit like us or do not act the same as we do. Everybody is focused on the global warming, the AIDS, other diseases, the wars, the peace, the oil business, etc. We forget that our mission in this world is to respect and help each other. Every person is valuable and meaningful

What would he change in Macedonia and the world?
World without frontiers. Macedonia needs to become a member of EU. Better life for all people.

Advice/message:
I have always been guided by the Rabi Abu Kalil’s maxim: “If I am not for myself, who else would I be? But, if I am only for myself, than what use would there be of me? And, if not now, then when?

I could never:
Forgive those who have not helped or lent a hand to those who asked for it.
