Civil society associations on the Law on donations and sponsorships in the public activities

Analyzing the needs and seeking adequate solutions

At the meeting, which took place on 22 February 2006 at the Macedonian Parliament, the delegates voted for the proposal for passing a Law on donations and sponsorships in the public activities, which had been proposed by a group of delegates. Its passing has been announced for March this year.

On 16 February 2006, the Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia organized a meeting on the working version of the Law for donations and sponsorship in the public activities. Participants at the meeting were representatives from non-governmental institutions, Civic Platform, Mobimak Foundation, Boris Trajkovski Foundation, The Macedonian Consumers Organization, The Ministry of Finance, OSCE, GTZ, USAID and other organizations who discussed and offered recommendations on the working version of the Law in order to pass proposals , which will then be submitted to the proposal-makers for finding out more efficient solutions.

FIOOM’s attitude is that this Law should be passed in a standard and not shortened procedure (as it has been recommended). It is also recommended that an overall analysis of the needs and conditions in the country be made and pass adequate solutions on the grounds of that. The proposal-based conclusions can be found on FIOOM’s web-site: www.soros.org.mk.
