287 children at “The World’s Biggest Lesson”

The Center for Children’s Rights of Albania – in cooperation with the education authorities in Tirana and the Global march against children’s labor, have organized “The World’s Biggest Lesson”, with participation of 287 children from four schools in Tirana, as part of the Global Campaign for Education.

This is the first time in the history of the educational system in Albania the campaign to be realized at the same time for the same issue. Simultaneously, the media’s interest in this activity was so big, that the newspapers, TV and radio stations had announced and broadcasted the news related to this event since the beginning of the global campaign “Education for everyone” on 6 April 2003.

The Center for Children’s Rights of Albania (CRCA) lodged an appeal to the Government, media and NGOs in Albania to work together on increasing the percentage of education in the whole country, especially of the young girls. According to the CRCA evaluations, more than 50.000 children are at the moment involved directly or indirectly in children’s labor and most of them are out of school. So far, only several programs for rehabilitation have been functional for the children who are out of school, one of them being the CRCA program “Stop the children’s labor in Albania”.
