PERSPECTIVE
Education for Albanian Women
The Albanian Women Association “Perspective” from Skopje has awarded the diplomas for completing four-year primary education to 39 Albanian women from Skopje, at the Primary school “Ilirija”, where most of the women spent the course. “The number of illiterate Albanian women in Macedonia is very big. We tried, as we could, to alleviate that condition. We have prepared a project and asked for a permission from the Ministry of Education to organize a course for completing a four-year primary education through the specialized school “Makarenko”. The problem was that the school provides courses from fourth to eight grade, however we managed to start the training from the first four grades, and then we moved further on, said Nurie Selimi, “Perspective” president. Women are aged 13 to 49. Most of them have families, so according to what they say, the problem appears when they have to help their children with the schoolwork. “My daughter goes to this school. One day she told me that through “Perspective” I could get primary education. I will complete the whole primary education, and then I will learn some craft” – said Dzevahira Aliu. This is the second part of the “Perspective” project “Making young Albanian girls and women literate”. The previous group consisted of women from the Skopje settlements Metodija Andonov Cento, Gazi Baba, Dizonska, Serava and Cair. The project is supported by the MCIC.
