Association for culture, art and education “KOPRU” (bridge)
Support and care for the students of Turkish nationality in Macedonia
The association for culture, art and education “KORPU” (Bridge) was officially established in March 2003. The first steps towards its formation data from some time ago and are related to a group of students from the Turkish Language and Literature Department in Skopje. They, besides the preparation of cultural-artistic programmes, raised the publication of the eponymous magazine in 2002, which has since then, been published seven times.
The association MOST has realized a number of conferences, seminars and meetings at which the Turkish culture and art, as well as the education of young people of Turkish nationality in our country were discussed. Last month in Skopje, the association’s office was officially opened, within which the first private library in Turkish language in Macedonia “Sair Acik Celebi” will operate. “The goal of this association is to provide support for the students from the Turkish community and care for the students of Turkish nationality from the other parts of the country who are doing their university courses in Skopje. The library will enable the students to have an access to appropriate books, magazines and newspapers, and we are planning to transform the library into a real cultural center in future. Another objective of the association is to continue the successful publication of the periodical magazine Most.
The future projects of the associations are related to the organization of language courses, scientific tribunes and various cultural programmes. We are also planning to work on the preparation of various projects of multi-ethnic character with other civil society organizations in the country, as well as with international organizations. Most is also a member of MATUSITEB – The Union of Turkish civil society organizations in Macedonia.
