European year of education through sport

The year 2004 was announced by the European Commission a year of education through sport. On that occasion, the European Commission will organize and support several initiatives that promote the educational value of the sport.

Initiatives of state administrations, agencies, institutions, local government, schools, universities and other organizations will be supported. The goals of this initiative are: raising the awareness of the importance of education through sport, encouraging the cooperation in this field in Europe, encouraging volunteer work and informal education, exchange of children and pupils, accomplishing better balance between the intellectual and physical activities at schools, etc.
