Tribune in Sveti Nikole

“Beat the cancer – be a healthy woman”

On 17 December 2007, the occasion being the campaign of the Ministry of Health, the Sveti Nikole Women Organization, in cooperation with the Macedonian Women Lobby, the Commission for Equal Opportunities and the Women – Members of Parliament Club, organized a tribune called “Beat the cancer – be a healthy woman”.

This organization has been working on the problem of reproductive health of the women since 1997. In this occasion, it contributed to raising the women awareness to go to regular gynecologic check-ups, which is also the campaign’s main objective.

The tribune took place at the municipality building parliament hall in Sveti Nikole and was attended by about 200 women. Part of the tribune was the Minister of Health, Imer Selmani, who said that there was interest for this event in other towns in Macedonia. Another indicator for the success of these tribunes was their number – the original plan was to hold 50, however, due to the increased interest, the number raised to 70, which took place throughout the towns and villages in the country.

Liljana Popovska, president of the Commission for equal rights of men and women, also took part in the tribune. Other people who participated were Violeta Tomovska, president of “Zivotna Iskra”, Daniela Dimitrievska, executive director of the Macedonian Women Lobby Office, Slobodan Danevski, Mayor of Sveti Nikole, Stojance Stefanovski from The Institute for Mother and Children Protection, Zoran Spirovski, Director of the Toracal Surgery Clinic from Skopje and Dr. Nadica Stojkovska from the Health Center “Gjorgji Gavrilski” in Sveti Nikole.
