Workshop on gender and sexual polices

Lack of gender sensitivity at the University

The Macedonian Association for Free Sexual Orientation (MASSO) in cooperation with the Gender Studies Research Centre at the Faculty of Philology have organized a workshop on “Gender and Sexual Policies”, the reason being the flagrant lack of gender insensitivity in the programmes, the lack of gender issues in the University’s biographies, as well as the existing criticism directed to the number of top intellectuals, which create the opinion of a huge number of “academic citizens” who come out with amazingly sexist statements.

The workshop’s goal was primarily to open a discussion within the University of Ss. Kiril and Metodij and to develop the students’ and professors’ awareness on gender and sexual issues I order to place the overall activism on women and human rights (LGTB) on intellectual and solid grounds.

The participants could hear the presentations of Professor Doctor Elizabeta Sheleva – “Sexual/gender policies in the text”; Dr. Suzana Milevska – “The Patriarchy and the penetration”; Dr. Katerina Kolozovska – “Introducing the gender criticism in the classical academic disciplines”, and MA Zarko Trajanovski – “Anti-discriminatory policies”.

They emphasized the need to protect the human rights in the country and to promote and respect them. The example of many other universities in Europe and wider where a fight is going on to eliminate the discrimination of people (LGBT) was pointed out as well.
