BY THREE MACEDONIAN AND ONE GREEK NGO

Presentation of the Regional Balkan Net Project

On 17 May this year at the Delegates Club in Skopje, with the introductory speech of the vice-minister of environment, Mr. Marjan Dodovski, four NGOs presented the regional project called Balkan Net.

Balkan Net is a project coordinated by the association Arkturos from Thessalonica, Greece and including the Journalist Legal Enviro-Center from Skopje, the Macedonian Ecological Association (MEA), also from Skopje, as well as the Macedonian Ecologists’ Movement (MEM), Skopje. The project was envisioned as a network of several NGOs from the country and the region, that is Macedonia, Greece, Albania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, and it aims to protect the large carnivores on the Balkans, such as the bear, the lynx, the wolf etc

At the presentation, the Greek NGO and the NGOs presented some of their activities realized in the past, such as scientific researches, education, raising the public awareness, role of public media in the conservation of the environment, the present conservation of nature and the possibility for future regional cooperation, legal basis large carnivores protection, etc.

The project is supported by the European Union.

The Association for Animals Protection, “Srna” from Skopje was a guest at the presentation and they talked about their initiative for adopting a law for animals’ protection.
