The World championship in debating held at the Parliament
The high school students from Lithuania winners
The high school students from Lithuania are winners at the World championship in debating, which was held in July in the Macedonian Parliament. They competed for the big cup with high school students from Latvia on the topic how to defeat drugs. The high school students from Latvia tried to prove that the positive strategy for decreasing the damage from drug use through civil organizations with voluntary treatment is a better way, whereas those from Lithuania supported the law and the obligatory treatment of this evil.
Jan Ivicek from the Czech Republic was declared the best debater. The Youth educational forum organizes the event, in cooperation with the International debate association, and more than 220 high school students from 25 countries throughout the world took part. Patron was the president of the Parliament Ljupco Jordanovski who said, among the other things, that the chosen themes are popular in all countries in the world regardless of their development and geographic position, pointing out that a special pleasure for him is the possibility to see the young people from all over the world discussing, debating, suggesting solutions and visions for solving these serious issues. He added that Macedonia as a country that promotes democracy and tolerance as highest values, is the real place for this kind of useful and educational gathering, and its highest legislative institution is the most suitable place for the finals of the debating competition.
