The computers improved the social club’s work
The centre for psychosocial support and mental health care from Skopje is a non-for-profit NGO, established in 1998. It focuses its activities on finding ways to prevent and promote the condition with the mental health of people treated as a biological, psychological and a social individual. It enables the interested citizens from Macedonia to promote their efficient functioning regarding the mental health in direct link with the social trends of increased stress, inappropriate informing about social security instruments and the disrupted individual value system.
The centre is realizing a wide range of scientifically based projects in the field of mental health and mental hygiene, and its target group consisting of people from different ethnic groups covers children/young people from several municipalities from Skopje, especially students with special needs attending specialized schools, such as the home for children with educational and social problems “25 May”, as well as young people who have completed their education and are employed.
A social club has been operating for over six years at the centre. It is aimed for people with intellectual disabilities or the beneficiaries of psychiatric services. It is open every weekday from 9 am to 5 pm. it is a place where different activities take place such as computer training courses, a basic course in English language, musical therapy, art therapy and psychosocial workshops. “This year, the E-Macedonia Foundation has given us its financial support that we used for providing new computer equipment and improving the working atmosphere in the club. Since March, when the new equipment was purchased and installed, we have overcome the problem of 2-3 mentally disabled children or young people working on the same computer, or waiting in line so that they can work individually”, say the members of the Centre, located in 7 Dico Petrov Street in the Kisela Voda municipality. “Thanks to the new equipment, in only three months the number of beneficiaries has increased a lot. The computer training is adjusted to their abilities and enriched with psychosocial workshops of interesting character.
