For corruption in university education

A kick!!!!

Under the motto “A kick! For corruption in university education”, the Youth educational forum continues its activities within the project “Anti-corruption in university education”. This project is part of the Anti-corruption student net of Southeast Europe, whose members are: Macedonia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Moldavia and Albania.

The campaign “A kick!” is only a part of the activities conducted by the Youth educational forum (YEF) in order to decrease corruption at Skopje and Bitola Universities, to influence the individuals involved in corruption actions, as well as to change the conscience of the participants in university education. The final aim is to make changes in the part of the existing legal and university regulation that generates corrupt behaviour.

The president of YEF, Marijan Zabrcanec, says there is corruption in university education, in all sectors, including the professors, students and administration. It’s confirmed by the research done by FIOOM, according to which 35% of the students have heard that their colleagues have been asked for a bribe for taking an exam, 35% don’t believe in the regularity of the enrolment at the faculty, 66% think that the criteria for division of rooms at the student halls of residence are not respected, and 66% have been asked to buy a student book from a professor.

The campaign “A kick! For corruption in university education! is a second part of the project Anti-corruption in university education, after the campaign “REZIL”. YEF is planning these activities in order to make this issue more relevant and to work on finding a solution for this problem that doesn’t occur only here, but in the whole region. As the most direct means in the fight against corruption in university education YEF in cooperation with the Ministry of education promotes the open telephone 02/310-6516 which everybody can call to “kick” corruption in university education.

Activities in the project of FCEW “Medjasi” – Friendship through interethnic cooperation

Net of teachers for non-violent running of conflicts

The first children embassy in the world “Medjasi”, within the project “Friendship through interethnic cooperation”, in 5 multiethnic clubs in secondary schools in Skopje, in Tetovo and in Kumanovo organized the first meeting for establishing a net of teachers for non-violent running of conflicts. Participants at the meeting were teachers from DSMU “Pance Karagozov”, DSU “Cvetan Dimov”, DSU “Nikola Karev” from Skopje, DSMU “Nikola Stein” from Tetovo, DSU “Nace Bugoni” from Kumanovo, as well as activists from the Children embassy “Medjasi”, who have passed the training for non-violent running of conflicts.

The meeting had an aim to form a net or group of individuals for non-violent running of conflicts, for strengthening the process of promotion of the mutual life and for exchanging experience.

The net will include teachers, pedagogues and other people who have participated at trainings for non-violent running of conflicts or are interested in this problem. The participation in the net is on voluntary basis and without formalities, and the Children embassy “Medjasi” will have a role to initiate the idea and to organize the first meetings, and the future activities will be organized by the teachers themselves. The meeting was used for agreement that the teachers and students covered with the project will take part in the summer school for human rights organized by the Helsinki committee for human rights, as well as organizing a joint summer camp for the children from their schools.

The project “Friendship through interethnic cooperation” foresees development of interethnic dialogue and improvement of the cooperation between the teachers and secondary school students from different ethnic origin and strengthening the capacities of the 5 multiethnic clubs in 5 secondary schools in Skopje, Tetovo and Kumanovo.

The project is financed by the European Union through the European committee within the programme “European initiative for democracy and human rights”, and is supported by the Ministry of education – Management department for improving the languages of the members of the minorities.

The second meeting for creating a net is planned in September, this year.
