Process
Be part of the solution, not the problem
The Macedonian Network for Damage Reduction in cooperation with HOPS, “Doverba”, “Pasage” and “Gluva Soba” implemented the campaign for creating positive opinion on the damage reduction programmes at the end of October. The campaign was designed for the drug addicts and their families; it lasted for five days and included round tables of informative and ducational character, video and audio events with rock=bands and DJ performances. The aim of the campaign was to extract the problem out of the conference halls and the health institutions and to put the problematic issues in this department o the tables in order to introduce them more closely to the public.
“For the first time in Macedonia, we managed to organize a meeting between organizations and programmes working on the process of rehabilitation of dug addicts. The idea was to map everyone working on this problem. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the daily centres for resocialization at the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, who at the time being operate in Kumanovo and in Ohrid, then, representatives from the Narconom Programme, the Reto-Center, there were also representatives from Ten-Challenge, Euromedica, etc. We tried to touch all those working on drug-related issues establish a database that will be available for those who need it”, summed up Nora Stojanovikj from the Macedonian Network for Damage Reduction. The network has initiated the first meeting, and their expectations are that the relevant institutions can continue the process in future in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.
Most disputes were noted at the tribune considering the methadone therapy. The general conclusion was that although the methadone treatment is the method which is most used in the world and shows the best results, it is very badly managed in our country, thus not showing good results. The informative meetings for the media were held in order to talk about the media role in the processes of informing and educating the public regarding the drug related issues. The focus was placed on their role in the direction of reducing the stigmatism of drug addicts and their families, from the terminology being used to the ways in which the media distribute the information. Informing on the problem using factual not sensational information-was another conclusion from the tribune.
